中式英语闲话之三

按汉语方式摆放在一起的英语词

前篇文章（《中式英语闲话，之二》）的英语译稿，很多句子令人费解。不看原文，根本不知道它们想表达什么意思；看原文，又看不出与原文相符的意思。

如，有这么一节（人名用[H]替代，组织或机构名用 [O] 替代，事物名用 [P] 替代）：

In 2011,investigation concerned 1,147 technical equipment of the enterprises engaged in[P], by the related departments of [O] indicated that, the equipment independently developed in Chinaaccounted for 80％approximately.  Except that [P] were mainly introduced, digested, absorbed, and re-innovated, otherdiscipline fields mainly relied on the original innovation and integrationinnovation.  In future, the emphasis of scientific researchwork is to be concentrated on the development of the core technology andequipment as [P], accordingto China standards.

The improved [P] technology system promoted formulation of the technical standardsof [P] products, standardization of engineering construction and operationtechnology, so as to have formed the standard technology system of China [P] with proprietary intellectual property rights, and laid afoundation for China [P] to implementthe strategy of “going abroad”.

2011年[O]有关部门对从事[P]的多家企业所涉及的1147项技术设备进行调查表明，中国自行研发的约占80％，除[P]以引进消化吸收再创新为主外，其它专业领域主要依靠原始创新和集成创新。今后科研工作重点是集中力量自主研发中国标准[P]等核心技术和装备。

完善的[P]技术体系促进了[P]产品技术标准的制定，以及工程建设标准化和运营技术标准化，形成了具有自主知识产权的[P]技术标准体系，为[P]路实施“走出去”战略奠定了基础。

中式英语有以下两大特点：

一，按汉语词语搭配方式，将英语词语搭配在一起。如：

… to implement thestrategy of “going abroad”.

在很多中式英语使用者与学习者心中,“实施”等于 implement， implement 等于“实施”，“实施战略”理所当然地是 implement the strategy。

二，按汉语句子结构，将英语词语或词组放在一起，组成句子。如：

… for China [P] to implement the strategy of “going abroad”.

在汉语中，事物名可以作为“实施”的主语；但是，在英语中，implement  的主语却不能是事物名，而应该是人名、组织或机构名。

其实，解决英语搭配问题，可以查阅英语国家编辑的英语搭配词典，有纸质的，也有在线的。要找在线的，搜搜  collocation dictionary  或 dictionary of collocation, 可以找到很多。用在  strategy 前面的动词，到目前为止，规范的只有：

achieve—; administer—;adopt—; advise—; approve—; beguile with—; condemn—; counsel—; direct—; effect—;employ—; execute—; fashion—; frame—; guide—; pilot  —; plan—; prescribe—; proceed with—; resortto—; steer—; work out—.

由此看来，能表达汉语“实施”意义的，应该是 employ 或 execute。

英语句子结构，是跟着动词走的。很多英语词典，尤其是学生词典，动词条目中都带有句子结构指示。哪些动词只能以人名、组织或机构名作主语，也经常有明确指示。

当然，仅仅靠读词典，还不足以消除中式英语。要完全消除中，还需大量的积累阅读与适量的热身阅读。

积累阅读，是平常的一般性阅读。原文书刊，不限领域，不限题材，多多益善。

热身阅读，是临时的针对性阅读。如果要用英语介绍某种事物，先阅读英语国家作者写的对相同事物的介绍。

做对外传播工作，包括汉语英工作，仅有热情与胆量是远远不够的。
