Google这个名字，据说是取自数学专有名词googol的谐音，是指10的100次方，即数字1后跟100个零，常指巨大的数字。这反映了创始人的梦想：把全世界的信息编组，让全世界的人使用。
Scirus的取名也颇有一番来历。这是一个人的名字，是古希腊的一个先知。从事科学研究工作，是向未来不确定性的挑战，需要不断的创新和拓展。Scirus搜索引擎的使命，就是帮助你在科研领域不断地挑战未来。
对Scirus有了一点了解之后，我觉得挺兴奋的：爱思唯尔长期被认为只提供价格昂贵的信息产品，殊不知我们也有免费的科研工具。而且，这个产品要是只指向爱思唯尔本公司的信息，那就没意思了，就失去了作为科研搜索引擎的意义。为了让大家对Scirus背后的信息源有一个清楚的认识，我把它们列举如下：
