Wednesday and Thursday, SPRU had an event called the SPRU DPhil day. some more information could be found here: http://www.sussex.ac.uk/spru/newsandevents/dphildays
This event lasted for two days, all the speaches in the first day were addressed by the professors of SPRU, or by some persons who have specific background related to the topics about how to do research. for example, a lecturer and a research fellower who have various experiences working in different countries delivered a talk on the challenge on the cross cultural research.
what mostly impressed me was that all the talks were delivered by at least two persons. the first talk was even given by a group of researchers (4 persons). the pictures shew here was not taken for this purpose, but it could illustrate exactly how professors could collaborate with each other. I don't know how many friends could recognize the professors who are in the pictures, they are really two big persons. who can tell me whom they are?
All the speachers in the second day were PhD candidators. some of them were the first year students, some of them were the second year students, some of them werethe third year students. So the presentations were not full papers, some presenters just present their ideas, what the kinds of the problems they had met......in one word, they did not show how wonderful their researches were, or how excellent they were......they just expected the discussant from SPRU criticised their work, and gave them some feedback so that they would knew where they should go......
I heard a discussant provided the presenter who had done the related work and what kind of research the presenter should pay attention to.
Can Chinese organize such kind of event?
