和陈勇博士相聚在台北

在这次北美铁路华工研究台北圆桌论坛会上,遇见了当年北京大学齐文颖教授的研究生陈勇，格外的高兴，回忆起当年的情景感触颇多，时针走得太快,一晃三十年过去。他现在是加州大學欧文分校歷史系副教授（Chen, Yong, Associate Professor, Department of History, University of California, Irvine, USA）在论坛会上,他提交了, “Building Railroads and Transplanting Chinese Food: Stories about Chinese Life in 19^th Century America”论文。

Yong Chen teaches at the University of California, Irvine, where he alsoserved as the University’s Associate Dean of Graduate Studies (1999-2004).He is the author of Chop Suey, USA: The Rise of Chinese Food in America(Columbia University Press, forthcoming); Chinese San Francisco 1850-1943(Stanford, 2000) and The Chinese in San Francisco (Peking UniversityPress, 2009), co-editor of New Perspectives on American History (HebeiPeople’s Publishing House, 2010), and co-curator of “‘Have You EatenYet?’: The Chinese Restaurant in America” in New York and Philadelphia.He has published numerous articles in various leading academic journals.His expertise on diverse issues, including race and immigration inAmerica, Chinese American history, higher education, Sino-Americanrelationships has received extensive media (print, TV, and radio)attention in English, Chinese, and Portuguese in the United States andelsewhere.He writes regularly in World Journal, the largestChinese-language newspaper in the United States, on important issues inboth America and China.His research on food has drawn attention fromnational and local media organizations across the country.He has alsodone consulting work with organizations like Haier, New York Life,Prudential, IFC of World Bank, Griffin Strategic Advisors, and WebContact.
