It is my great pleasure and honor to inform you about the upcoming special issue of "Journal of Applied and Computational Mechanics" (http://jacm.scu.ac.ir/) which is organized and managed by Professor Timon Rabczuk.

Special Issue: Computational Methods for Material Failure - 2017

Call for Papers

The prediction of fracture and failure of engineering systems and materials has been of interest for many years. Methods to predict material failure can be categorized into continuous approaches to fracture and discrete crack approaches. Gradient-enhanced models, non-local models and phase field models are among the most common representatives of the first class of methods while the extended finite element method (XFEM), meshfree methods, peridynamics or efficient remeshing techniques belong to the latter type.

The main focus of this special issue is on computational methods for fracture. Articles submitted to this special issue can also be concerned about large-scale engineering applications, implementational aspects, and constitutive modeling. Articles dealing with the transfer of length scales in the context of multiscale methods for fracture are particularly welcome. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

* Advances in partition of unity methods for fracture

* Efficient remeshing techniques

* Phase-field models for fracture

* Screen-Poisson models

* Gradient and nonlocal models

* Cohesive zone models

* Discrete element methods

* Peridynamics

* Large-scale engineering applications

* Parallel-coding and implementational aspects

* Multiscale methods for fracture

* Coupled and multiphysics problems
