The Loom of Language(by Frederick Bodmer),与它相伴的还应该有一本兰姆的散文,不知躲到哪儿去了。
Books are weapons in thewar of ideas。
We all know that books burn—yet we have the greater knowledge that books cannot be killed by fire. People die,but books can never die. No man and no force canabolish memory. No man and noforce can put thought in a concentration camp forever. No man and no force cantake from the world the books that embody man’seternal fight against tyrannyo f every kind. In this war, we know, books are weapons. And it is a part of your dedication always to make them weapons for man’s freedom.
当然,Rawlings更有名的还是The Yearling(B55,S33重印)。
