A  brief chronology of Chinese plant morphologist Ching–Yue Chang (1895--1975)

--1895: Born in Guanghua County, Hubei Province (湖北省光化县), China;

--1916: Graduated from the Saint James’ High School (圣雅格中学), Wuhu city, Anhui Province (安徽芜湖圣雅格中学), China;

--1916: Began to study at the Tsing Hua Imperial College (清华学堂) in Beijing, which was renamed as “Tsinghua University” in 1928;

--1920: Graduated from the Tsing Hua Imperial College;

--1920: Began to study at the Texas A & M University, USA;

--1922: Transferred to the Department of Botany of Chicago University;

--1923: Obtained a B.Sc. degree and then studied with American plant morphologist and embryologist Charles Joseph Chamberlain (1863--1943);

--1925: Completed a doctoral thesis, entitled “The origin and development of tissues in the rhizome of Pteris aquilina L.”, and obtained a Ph.D. degree;

--1925—1931: Employed by the Southeast University (东南大学) in Nanjing, China;

--1930(August)—1931 (July): Visiting professor to Joseph Hubert Priestley’s(1883--1944) lab within the Department of Botany, the Leeds University, UK;

--1931(October)—1932 (June): Visiting professor to Otto Schüepp (1888--??)’s lab within the Botanical Institute of the Basal University, Switzerland [Otto Schüepp was a corresponding member of the Botanical Society of America];

--1932 (September): Served as professor and chairman of Department of Biology, Peking University since September 1932;

--1934: Got married with Dr. Tsui Chih-Lan (崔之兰, 1902--1971) in Beijing;

--1938 (April)—1946 (May): Served as professor for the National Southwestern Associated University (西南联合大学) in Kunming, China;

--1945: Made one-year visit to UC Berkeley, USA;

--1946—1948: Served as professor and chairman of Department of Biology and Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences of Peking University;

--1948: Elected to the Academia Sinica (中央研究院) in Nanjing;

--1949—1952: Professor and chairman of the Department of Botany, Peking University;

--1952—1975: Professor and chairman of the Department of Biology, Peking University;

--1955: Elected to the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing;

--1975: Died in Beijing.

       中国植物形态学及解剖学先驱--张景钺（1895—1975）于1895年出生于湖北省光化县。1916年毕业于安徽省芜湖圣雅格中学。1920年毕业于清华学堂。1925年毕业于美国芝加哥大学获博士学位。

       自1932年起，张景钺供职于北京大学生物系。1948年，当选中央研究院院士。1955年，被选聘为中国科学院学部委员（院士）。“文革”期间，张景钺在北京大学遭受迫害。1975年，病逝于北京。参见：

Sun附注:中国古植物学家、孢粉学家徐仁院士(1910--1992)系安徽省当涂县姑孰镇(城关镇)人。夫人张玉珍(1913--1984)也为安徽省当涂人。1923年，徐仁考入芜湖圣雅格中学初中三年级。徐仁晚年曾回忆：“圣雅格中学为教会学校，是美国人办的。学习内容除英文圣经外，还读英文文法、数学、生理卫生和修身(good manner)。
