古植物学研究离不开文献，文献太重要了，越老的文献往往越重要。一般来说，研究者搜集的文献基本上属于个人物品。对于文献的最终归属一般由研究者个人（或家人）处置。

   在北京，有的古植物学研究者退休之后，把文献当作废品卖了。有的古植物学前辈去世后，其文献和重要科学通讯被家属当废品卖了。

有时候，有朋友向我报告：TA在北京潘家园见到XXX古植物学家的文献、书信……

   今天，我要告诉朋友们，有3位白求恩式的美国著名古植物学家把他们一生收集的文献全部托孤给了遥远的中国！

   1996年初，美国著名古植物学家Charles Jack Smiley(1924—1996)去世。那一年，他的科学文献被托孤给中国科学院南京地质古生物研究所。关于Charles Jack Smiley，参见：

   1998年夏，美国著名古植物学家Fancis M. Hueber将他的科学文献托孤给中国科学院植物研究所（北京）。为了确保文献平安抵达北京，Fancis M. Hueber非常细心、非常认真，花费很多钱通过Air Canada将文献空运到北京！关于Fancis M. Hueber，参见：
