与癌共舞（3） 我给美国副总统拜登的一封电邮全文

一月14日晚，我在科学网的博客上传的博文 《与癌共舞 （1）- 是时候了，停止人们死于癌症！》中提到，美国的奥巴马总统和拜登副总统联手，向全美国和全世界的人们，发出了向癌症宣战的极强冲鋒号。

（ 注：in their announcement of President Obama and Vice President Biden’s Moonshot Initiative to Cure Cancer throughout the world）。

拜登副總统并为此重大的历史使命，发表了一篇关于这项使命的声明（Statement）。

在他的 Statement 中，在列述这项使命的细节前，他在一个稍大的，专门留出的，版面中央，以更大的字体，写了下面这句话：

“ If this disease has touched your life, I want to hear your story.”

“如果癌症曾经感触过你，我想要听到你的故事”。

我在一月17日，通过我所在的《美国全方位癌症联合会》提供的，直通副总统拜登的电邮渠道，给拜登副总统发去了一封电邮。

下面是电邮的全文。

Dear Vice President Biden,

My eyes became wet when I saw the photo of you with your son's family at his funeral.  

As a mother with a son and two grandchildren of similar age to yours I cannot imagine how I could go through such a tragedy if I were faced with such situation.

I received an email from the NCCN which includes the announcement of President Obama and Vice President Biden’s Moonshot Initiative to Cure Cancer throughout the world during the State of the Union Address which was outlined in your Statement.

When I read through your Statement I feel so encouraged that you have broken through your enormous sorrow and have taken up such a great mission with tremendous courage and determination.

Fifty-five years ago President J F Kennedy called for humankind to go to the moon.  Now we have a Moonshot Initiative to cure cancer.

I believe that this mission may well become a greater mission than that of the President J F Kennedy.

Because that was to conquer, whereas this is to save; that was for search of universe, whereas this is for lives on earth: for other fathers not to lose their sons, for other daughters not to lose their husbands and for other grandchildren not to lose their fathers.

I wholeheartedly applause the mission no matter how many people were in doubt in their mind on whether the mission will succeed.  With a united global determination and effort I pray that humanity will win and that we will succeed in conquering such an evil disease.

In your Statement you requested "If this disease has touched your life, I want to hear your story"  to which I respond by offering the below attached letter which I wrote two years ago.
