In my last article, I spoke about “the merit of Procrastination”. However, there is one caveat – when someone asks you to do something and you agreed to do it or not.Then the operative words are in the title above. Being “responsive” means you quickly provide an answer. That is what RSVP on an invitation means. You are asked to answer yes or no so that the person asking can plan alternatively if you say no. It does not mean “I’ll come if I have time 我有空就来”. Same thing when you asked to do a task. Being responsivein this case also means you provide alternative suggestions if you cannot do what it asked. On the other hand, once you agreed to something, being “responsible”means you take over responsibility for carrying out the task, completely and ontime. It is in the spirit of what Chairman Mao’s saying “I have confidence in your completing the task successfully 你辦事我放心”
The world pays a premium to people who are “responsive and responsible”. Procrastination in answering and in carrying out the agreed to task is not recommended,
