By asking, "What happened at the beginning, in the middle, and at the end of the story?" (can also be used
nonfiction)

(Retells should include important details about the characters, setting, problem, events, solution to problem, and
ending.)


2. Talk about personal opinions -

Did you like this story or book (nonfiction)?
Why or why not?

What is your favorite part and why?

3. Make connections - Which part of this story is most interesting or surprising to you?
Why?

Show how something that happened in this story is like something that happened in your life.

4. Make predictions - What do you think will happen next? What makes you say that?
