Microsoft is usually associated with the software and their researchers are supposed to develop new technologies for the next generation IT technology. However, it is not true. Most scientists working in various Microsoft research centers are allowed to have the freedom to choose what they want to do. The Microsoft research center in Trento, Italy focus on the research of the computational and system Biology. Next year it will hold a course to introduce the cutting-edge research in this field. The topics are as following:
Gabor Balazsi – University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center
Biomolecular interaction networks
Attila Becskei – University of Zurich
Behavior and evolution of synthetic and natural cellular networks
Stefan Bornholdt – University of Bremen
Complex Systems
Luca Cardelli – Microsoft Research Cambridge
Abstract Machines of Systems Biology
Matteo Cavaliere - CoSBi
Natural Computing
Attila Csikasz-Nagy - CoSBi
Dynamics of cell cycle regulatory networks
Albert Goldbeter – Université Libre de Bruxelles
Biological clocks
Lars Juhl Jensen – EMBL, DE
Literature mining and large-scale data integration
Csaba Pal – Biological Research Center Hungary
Evolutionary systems biology
Corrado Priami - CoSBi
Computational and formal methods for systems biology
Guy Shinar – Weizmann Institute of Science, Uri Alon’s Group
Design principles of protein networks
Victor Sourjik – Zentrum für Molekulare Biologie der Universitat Heidelberg

During this holiday season, I will stay in Beijing for more than one month, from Dec 14 to Jan. 15 next year. I really like to have some discussions with people in this field. If you are interested, you could drop a message here or leave me your contacts. :-)
