文艺复兴时期的植物学家(1)--Andrea Cesalpino (1519--1603)

      人类的科学研究归根到底属于思想活动及斗争。就现代植物和化石植物的科学研究而言，它们的最根本任务是认识自然和理解自然。

      在中世纪的欧洲，思想的禁锢大大阻碍了科学研究和人文艺术的发展和创新。但是，在中世纪末期，也就是在14世纪意大利率先掀起了文艺复兴运动，开启了一场深刻的思想与文化解放运动，从而有力地推动了现代科学和艺术的全面兴起。

     《植物演化生物学讲座》（第8期）将聚焦意大利文艺复兴时期的著名植物学家Andrea Cesalpino (1519--1603)。Andrea Cesalpino曾在比萨大学(University of Pisa)求学和工作。1555年，Andrea Cesalpino担任比萨植物园主任。Andrea Cesalpino的植物学贡献包括以下诸多方面：

--遵循古希腊学者亚里斯多德(Aristotle, 384—322 BC) 和提奥弗拉斯托斯Theophrastus(c.371—c.287 BC)的学术思想，以植物形态学和生理学为基础来观察和研究各种植物；

--成为现代植物标本馆事业的先驱之一；

--对1500多种植物进行了描述和分类；

--出版学术著作，如 Deplantis libri XVI (1583)；

--提出他自己的植物分类系统，开启系统植物学(Systematic Botany)研究；

--培养植物学人才，如Pietro Castelli (1574–1662)。
