Movie fans, Oscar ceremony, and Generation gap
I was a movie fan since very young. I recall in middle school to celebrate the end of final examination one year in Shanghai, I saw three movies in a row in one afternoon and evening, and was severely punished upon returning home. In 1951 in the US I saw my first telecast of the Oscar award ceremony with the legendary comedian, Bob Hope, as master of ceremony. There after I watch the Oscar ceremony broadcasts almost every year for the next 60+ years. Oscar ceremony is the epitome of glamor and star power and is broadcasted all over the world. Celebrities compete to be interviewed on the red carpet wearing designer dresses. This year is no different except for me as a viewing audience member. With one exception, I did not know any of the nominated movies, presenting celebrities, and the award recipients. At my age, the celebrities I know are of similar ages and are past celebrities. The Oscar ceremony is now geared towards much younger viewers. Sad but true - Generation gaps exist and I have to accept it.
