Part.2

Introduction

Medical robotics is reshaping the future of minimally invasive intervention, as well as precision diagnostics, personalized rehabilitation and targeted therapy. It is also moving beyond the traditional use of motors and gears, to leverage the latest developments in new materials and fabrication schemes for multi-functional, power-efficient, compliant, and autonomous function in in vivo settings. To this end, conventional manufacturing methods struggle to reconcile the competing physical demands of sub-millimeter to micronscale precision, heterogeneous material integration, and structural compliance required for sustained in vivo operation and dynamic human-robot interaction.

This Special Issue aims to bridge the latest advancements in new materials and fabrication schemes for the development of next-generation medical robotics with material properties that harness physical intelligence and precision actuation. We seek to include both cutting-edge research and comprehensive reviews/perspectives that address the scientific and engineering challenges in fabrication and advanced manufacturing techniques for these medical robotic systems.
