不过在1901年至2019年之间,诺贝尔生理医学奖共颁发了110次。有219人获奖,其中一人单独获奖者39次,两人分享者33次,另外38次是三人分享。在219名诺贝尔生理医学奖获奖者当中,有12名女科学家。因发现胰岛素而获得了1923年诺贝尔生理医学奖的弗雷德里克·班廷(Frederick G. Banting),是有史以来最年轻的诺贝尔生理医学奖得主,获奖时年仅32岁。
