From a small beginning on the Tsinghua campus in 1993, this bi-annual congress, the only world wide conference where Chinese and English are official conference languages, has grown to over 1800 registrants this year. This is the brain child of Professor T. J. Tarn of Washington University (USA) who nurtured and guided the development of this conference to its current status. After taking place in Xian (1997), Hefei (2000) Shanghai (2002), Hongzhou (2004), Dalian (2006), it is being hosted by Chongqing university in Chongqing, Sichuan. Four plenary speeches by foreign and local scholars as well as 20 parallel lecture and poster sessions are taking place over a three day period (6/25-27).
