Two Interesting questions that I encountered recently

Here are two questions on current events that I have come across:

1  The first is a lecture given by the President of the Boston Museum of Science on “How to re-gain trust in Science”:

    a. He first describes the Traditional model of how progress and trust in science are derived. It is a top-down model. A scientific discovery is first debated among the scientific circle until the truth is settled. The journalists then were told or heard about it. They pass the news to the public who accept it .

    b. However with the arrival of the INTERNET and social media, a new model of scientific news has evolved. The Current model starts with some “scientific news” made up or discovered by an “Influencer”   follower by “Amplifiers” and social opinion page which made the “discovery” popular among followers. In this model you can ignore “truth” if you have enough followers on the social media who believe in you. This has destroyed “trust” in science c. The speaker helped to establish “The Science Creators Network” among established scientists and younger workers in a “mentor-mentee” relationship as an antidote to re-establish trust in science with the rationale that “if you cannot fight them, then join them” as the answer to the current social media model

2. The second is a hypothetical question - How many days of your life you are willing to give up in order to get rid of the remaining days of current unpopular Trump administration in real life (about  2.8 years = 1022 days)?

    a. My own selfish view: Not even one day since at my age of almost 92 years this could mean immediate death for me. I want to go on living since I am enjoying my golden years. Furthermore, at my age whatever the Trump administration does most probably will have little effect on my remaining life.

     b. Individual or group view: The answer is probably also no since 1022 days is a rather long time and no one can predict his/her own longevity. However, because of Trump’s unpopularity (currently at below 40%), it is probably not hard to find s group of 1022 persons each to give up one day of his/her life in order to make the Trump administration disappear.
