Coconut Aminos vs. Soy Sauce
When growing up in China, I remember there was this “shrimp roe favored soy sauce” that tasted delicious. However, I have not seen it for sale in supermarkets in the US (as different brand of regular soy sauces are) even in few Chinatowns I visited. Recently I discovered something which come very close as a substitute that one can buy in specialty supermarkets in the US, such as TRADER JOE. It tastes milder than soy sauce but more flavorful and is certainly a good substitute for the “shrimp roe flavored soy sauce", namely “Liquid Aminos” which is made from coconuts. https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/liquid-aminos-benefits
It is more expansive than regular soy sauces. But in my opinion certainly worth the added cost. I have never heard my fellow Chinese Americans talk about this product in the 70 years I have lived in the US. Thus, this blog is mostly for my North American fellow compatriots who might have a yearning for such product. Give me some feedback on whether or not I am just being ignorant and whether or not you agree with the good taste of this product.
