President Obama is known of his ability to deliver a speech. But he is also good at answering tough questions from reporters. This is never better illustrated than the other night three days after the election in his Q&A session with reporters when one of the reporters asked: Mr. President during the campaign including the last day you repeatedly stated that Donald Trump is temperamentally unsuited for being the President. How do you feel now?
An ordinary politician will of course dodge the question and pivot on campaign oratory to talk about somethings else without answering the question. But here is Obama’sanswer: “Every president grows during his term. I was never good at keeping my files in order. During my presidency I have briefing papers and reports totaling dozens to hundreds per day. I tried to get them organized but failed. So I learned to hire somebody good at this task to help me. And it worked out well. I am sure President-elect Trump will surround himself with good people who will help him to conduct the affairs of state well.”
Thus, he answered the question without dodging the issue or disparaging the President-elect, still is true to himself, and at the same time, using the excuse of a small fault on his own part, to give sound advice to the office of the presidency and the next occupant. Billiant!
May be he had anticipated the question. But to be prepared or deliver it off-the-cuff, one cannot help but admire his skill.
