Highly motivated PhD or MS/PhD candidates are sought for
research in computational mechanics and inverse problems in the Department of
Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh.

The student(s) will perform tasks related to the development
of tools for the modeling of interactions between structures and their natural
and manmade environmental conditions, as well as computational approaches to
solve inverse problems related to the characterization and prevention of damage
and degradation of such structures. He
or she will have access to top notch research facilities, which includes the
Pittsburgh Super Computing Center (PSC), and the opportunity to work with the
highly reputable faculty members within the Swanson School of Engineering and
out.

The successful individual will have attained a Bachelor’s
degree (for MS/PhD) or Master’s degree (for PhD) in a related field of
engineering and have strong interests, and preferably some background, in
computational mathematics/mechanics, computer science (especially high
performance computing), solid and fluid mechanics, inverse problems, and
optimization.

Interested applicants should email their CV, a brief statement
of research interests, and a potential start date to Professor John Brigham at brigham@pitt.edu for immediate
consideration. Any questions regarding
the position are welcomed and should be directed to Professor Brigham.
