Tom’s birthday party

Place : Tom’s Home    

 Time: Today(Tom’s Birthday)

Ø Narrator：Good morning my dear teacher and classmates. We come from group 1, and I am the narrator. Today, we will show you a drama—Tom’s birthday party

Scene: Today is November 11th , 2009, and it is Tom's birthday. He plans to invite his four friends from different countries to his birthday party.

Now, Tom is very exited .He is singing slightly and preparing for the party. At this moment the door bell ring.

Scene I, Tom’s Japanese friend’s JingMei first arrive his home. 

(Tom quickly run to open the door)

Tom: Hi, JingMei, you are my first guest. I am so glad you can come to my birthday.

Thanks.

JingMei: Hi Tom. Long time no see.( bow down)

Tom: (回敬:点头)Come in, please.

JingMei: It’s my honor for being invited, Happy birthday to you! This is a little gift for you.

Tom: Oh. Thank you very much. Please, set down. what do you want to drink.

JingMei: A cup of water , thank you. 

(Tom prepare water for JingMei)

Ø Narrator: At the moment, The doorbell ring. 

Tom: Here you are(water), Execute me, I’ll go to answer the door. You can watch TV. There are some magazine on the bookshelf. ( run to open the door)

Scene II，His friend Gandhi comes from India coming.

Tom: Hey, Gandhi. 

Gandhi: Hi, Tom(双手合十). Happy birthday to you.

Tom: (回敬:点头)Haven’t seen you for a long time since your party last month, come in!

Gandhi: I'm pretty busy recently

Tom: So, what are you busy with recently.

Gandhi: Just for exam.

Tom: Come on, guy. I will introduce a friend. Hi, JingMei, This is My friend Gandhi from India., This is JingMei from Japan.

JingMei: How do you do!

Gandhi: How do you do!

Tom: I’ll go to the kitchen, and help yourself.

(Tom leaves)

Gandhi: You are so beautiful. 

JingMei: thank you! 

Gandhi: I like to make friend with you. We are friends of Tom. I think we will be good friends.

JingMei: So do I . Oh! Do you want to have a drink?

Gandhi: Oh, yeah! A cup of coffee will be ok! With a little sugar. Thank you! You are so kind!

JingMei:( prepare the coffee and here Gandhi are using her left hand.) Here you are.

Gandhi :Oh! NO! It's dirty and nauseous! 

(JingMei don’t know what means. Surprise! So still give him the coffee, the Gandhi push the cup down, bong….., Tom heard, and go out).

Tom: What happened? (pick up the cup )

Gandhi: She handed over the coffee to me by using her left hand. I can't stand.

Tom: (to Gandhi)Oh, my dear friends, It’s my fault that I haven’t told her about some Indian customs. I am sorry about my carelessness. (to JingMei) Indians think it’s not polite to hand over things with left hand, especially food and water.

JingMei: Oh! I get it. I am sorry, Gandhi. I apologize for what I just done.

Gandhi: I should not blame you! You don't know about that.

(Gandhi want to go to the toilet.)
Gandhi: Tom, where is washing room. 

Tom: This way, please. 

(Gandhi leaves)

Ø Narrator: At the moment, The doorbell ring again.

Scene III，The Arab boy is coming

Tom：Hi，Mohammed(穆罕默德)，(拍他的肩)How are you doing?

Mohammed(穆罕默德)：Not bad! Happy birthday, my dear friend!（贴面礼）

Tom: Come in. Hey, JingMei, let me introduce Muhammad to you, he is from Arab and we often play basketball together. 

Mohammed(穆罕默德)：(试图拥抱静美)Nice to meet you!

JingMei：（后退）

Tom：Hey, Hey! man, wait…... Japanese girl do not want others to touch her. It’s a good manner to keep some distance with girls from Tokyo. Got it?

Mohammed(穆罕默德)：I'm sorry!

Tom :OK, Please help yourself at home. I will go to the kitchen to check the pizza.

Scene IV  The Chinese girl come.

Ø Narrator：Now, JunLing(俊玲) is coming. She is Tom’s Chinese friend.

JunLing：（敲门）

Tom：Can someone help me answer the door?

Gandhi：(Out of the washing room just)Let me do it(open the door)

JunLing(俊玲)：Is this Tom's home?

Gandhi：Yes.

JunLing(俊玲)：I am Tom's Chinese friend. My name is JunLing. I am invited to take part in his birthday party. Is Tom at home?

Gandhi：Of course. Come in ,please. I am Gandhi from India. Glad to see you!

(俊玲伸手准备握手，甘地双手合十)

Gandhi：Maybe I should shake hands with you. 

（Gandhi and JunLing都进门）

Gandhi：Hey,Tom.Come out! We are all here!

Scene V  Tom go out from kitchen with handing a pizza. 

Tom: OK! Pizza is ready. Have you known each other?

众人：Not yet！

Tom: Ok, let me introduce you all. This is JingMei from Japan, and this is my Indian friend Gandhi. Here, beautiful Japanese girl JingMei. And this is my brother  Muhammad. Some of you have some misunderstand the other’s behaves. Because there are a lot of differences among different cultural，please introduce yourselves and your custom to avoid mistakes at the party following.

Gandhi：I'm Gandhi and I come form India. You can't give me the water or foods with your left hand. In India it is impolite. 

JingMei：Hello, I’m JingMei, from Japan. In our country, it is the custom for people to bow when they meet their acquaintances, and people often keep some distance with each other. Whether the Japanese visit family or friends, we have to bring the gifts, (but do not bring the flowers, because Some flowers are used at funeral or when people are courting. Also, we don't like the number "four”, because the number four is similar with death in  pronunciation. what's more, Japanese taboo(忌讳） to talk and laugh loudly in public.)

JunLing：My name is JunLing. I come from China. China has a long history. It is recognized as a state of ceremonies. But when we meet strangers, we are used to shake hands each other.

Muhammad(穆罕默德)：My name is Mohamed, and I come from Iraq. In our country, we used to touch each other's body, and keep a close distance. And the gesture of crossing their hands when talking is not accepted. It is very impolite.

Tom：OK！Now it's party time! Help yourselves!

众人：Happy birthday to you！It's a gift for you!

Ø Narrator :Finally, Tom and his friends have a lot of fun in this party.
