In general this is a careful, well organized analysis of up-down asymmetry effects on the Alfven eigenmode spectrum, with application to the EAST tokamak. Before publication the following questions need to be addressed.
page 2 - 4th line of second paragraph: It is claimed that AE frequency and mode structures can be calculated to acceptable accuracy by MHD theory. There are now a number of examples showing that this is not true. Fast ion perturbative effects do change the mode structure and to some extent the frequency away from MHD. This should be acknowledged.
page 6, Figure 1, right-hand plot: There are parts of two curves here. Not clear what the lower one is. Either it should be removed or labeled.
page 12 - the computational domain is restricted to a sub-domain near the center of the gap with the eigenfunction going to zero at the endpoints of the sub-domain. This seems unjustified and may distort the form of the eigenfunction. Some explanation needs to be given as to why this us justified.
page 13 - 7th line: the phase should be defined here, i.e., phase relative to what.
The computational method used here should be explained in more detail. All that is mentioned is that a shooting method is used. More should be said about how this works.
Fig. 10(a) There seem to be other m's present than just 1 and 2. These should be mentioned somewhere, perhaps in the caption.
