SCI（Scientific Citation Index)：是美国科学信息研究所（ISI)编辑出版的引文索引类刊物，创刊于1964年。分印刷版、光盘版和联机板等载体。印刷版、光盘版从全球数万种期刊中选出3700种科技期刊，涉及基础科学的100余个领域。每年报道60余万篇最新文献，涉及引文900万条。进入SCI这一刊物的论文即为SCI论文。

影响因子： IF（inpact factor）指在一定时期（通常是前两年）内，某一刊物发表的论文，被已经进入SCI刊物的论文所引用的总次数，除以该刊物这一时期内的论文总数，即为该刊物的影响因子。

JCR：ISI每年出版JCR（Journal Citation Reports），即《期刊引用报告》。JCR对包括SCI收录的SCI-Expanded（包括SCI核心区期刊）的期刊之间引用和被引用数据进行统计、运算，并针对每种期刊定义了影响因子(Impact Factor)等指数加以报道。一种期刊的影响因子，指的是该刊前二年发表的文献在当前年的平均被引用次数。一种刊物的影响因子越高，也即其刊载的文献被引用率越高，一方面说明这些文献报道的研究成果影响力大，另一方面也反映该刊物的学术水平高。因此，JCR以其大量的期刊统计数据及计算的影响因子等指数，而成为一种期刊评价工具。

SCIE：扩展版SCI，包括SCI核心期刊在内的5800多个世界一流学术科技期刊，涉及150多个基础领域。

另外还有EI（the engineering index）《工程索引》，包括3500种期刊；ISTP （index to Science & Technical Proceedings）《科技会议索引》。

在ISTP、 EI、 SCI这三大检索系统中，SCI最能反映基础学科研究水平和论文质量，历来为世界科技界密切注视的中心和焦点。ISTP、EI这两个检索系统评定科技论文和科技期刊的质量标准方面相比之下较为宽松。
