What can you give to your 18 years old who cannot think of wanting anything in particular (since his basic needs are met by his loving parents)?
I have been thinking hard lately, trying to give my dear son something unique for his special birthday. Chance came when I opened a letter from UNICEF, in which there is a “2010 Holiday Shopping List.” I handed it to my son, and asked him to circle a few things on the list that he wants to give. Here are his choices:
1) Oral Rehydration Salts (PRS) to save the lives of children struck by severe diarrhea dehydration ($60 for 750 packets)
2) Water Purification Tablets for use in disasters ($69 for 10,000 tablets)
3) High-protein biscuits specially developed for malnourished children ($70 for 57 sachets)
I am so proud of you, my dearest son! I think you are well prepared to go on living as a responsible citizen, and we will continue this gift giving every year on your birthday.
