It is my pleasure to introduce myself. My family name is Chen, and my given mane is Li-Qun. Born in Anshan City, Liaoning Province, I now live in Shanghai with my wife and my daughter. My wife is an editor of a medicine journal. My daughter, 12 years old, studies in a junior high school, grade 2 in the coming new term.

I received the Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Anshan Institute of Iron and Steel Technology (now Anshan University of Science and Technology) in 1984, the Master of Science degree in Mechanics from Northeastern University in 1989, and the Ph. D. degree in Mechanics from Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 1997.

Between 1984 and 1998, I was a faculty member in Anshan Institute of Iron and Steel Technology, successively as a teaching assistant (1984-1990), an instructor (1990-1992), an associate professor (1992-1997) and a full professor (1997-1998). From 1997 to 1999, I was a postdoctoral fellow in Shanghai Institute of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics. Since 1999, I have been with Department of Mechanics, Shanghai University, where I am currently a university "core" professor. In 2000, I was authorized to direct Ph. D. students. Last year, I worked as a research associate in University of Toronto for 6 months.

I am enjoying my work including teaching and research. I lecture Mechanics of Vibration, Theory of Elasticity, and Theoretical Mechanics for undergraduate students, and Nonlinear Vibrations, Nonlinear Dynamics, Modern Control etc. for graduates. Presently, there are 7 Ph. D. students under my supervision. I shared two second prizes of Shanghai Teaching Achievements in Higher Education in 2001. My research interests are in the areas of nonlinear dynamics and vibration control. My investigation is supported by National Natural Science Foundation of China. Our work was twice conferred the second prize of Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award (in 2000 and 2002). I am the co-author of 3 books, namely Mechanics of Vibrations (1998, 2000), Nonlinear Dynamics (2000), and Nonlinear Vibrations (2001), and I published over 80 papers in distinguished journals, among them about 40 in English.

In addition to my university duty, I also take part in academic activities. I am a Committeeman of the Specialty Committee of Dynamics, Vibration, and Control, Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, a Vice-President of Chinese Society of Multidisciplinary Research on Mathematics, Mechanics, Physics, and High-Technology and a Editorial Board Member of Series of Nonlinear Dynamics published by Science Press. I was a member of the Scientific Committee of the Fourth International Conference of Nonlinear Mechanics (2002). I also served as a peer reviewer for four international journals, more than 10 national journals and some international conferences.

I highly appreciate the opportunity to improve my bilingual teaching. Actually, a publisher invited me with two other professors to write a textbook in English on Theoretical Mechanics for Chinese students, and we have signed the contract. I hope to finish the task as well as possible.
