In the print or broadcast media, when we say a story "has legs" – meaning the story is 

durable and refuses to go away.

In my blog on May 7, I indirectly first mentioned the problem of toxic imports from 

China. Then my blog on June 29 directly addressed this problem. In the interim, 

stories both on TV and in newspapers continues to appear. In today's New York 

Times, three articles appear dealing with such imports.

American businesses and the Bush administration must send a 

clear message to Beijing that it has to clean up its act or 

its export-led boom will falter.

2. Trouble in China Is Good News for American Toy Manufacturers

I am not sure if you can access NYTimes directly from China.

But the abstracts make clear the message behind the stories.



This is something China must deal with seriously. It is not about "face" or "blame". It 

has to do with "trust" and "economic welfare" for the entire population. 

Note Mattel has to recall the toys not because it wants to punish China. Mattel does this 

to prevent multi-billion lawsuit it may face. This is a matter of self-preservation. 

Thus, both the government and the trading companies of China must be diligent 

and institute mutual and self policing. It is business and enlightened self interest. 

Otherwise, everyone suffers.
