Recently having living in this senior community for more than 2 years, I came to appreciate another advantage of such place - complete safety for the residents. For seniors living in their own home, whether alone or with their partner, you are completely at the mercy of home invasion and random attack by thieves/robbers. Especially for minorities immigrants, one often become victims of native born Americans who for one reason or another has fallen on hard economic times. They feel that various immigrants have taken over their country and their economic opportunities. As a result, their anger and greviences turn into violence against (in their mind) the intruders - namely the immigrants. Recent upticks in Anit-Asian hate crimes are but one instance of such feelings. Of course, the root reason lie in the importance of education and high level skill in this globalized world as well as the immigration policies of the US which favor skilled immigrants. But it is difficult to vent ones frustration against invisible economic forces or government policy. Senior living in their own home becamne easy targets.
Living in a well organized senior community there are safety in numbers. And organization that runs such community go to great length to care for the residents including health and personal safety measures. In the facility where we live, I am not aware of any violent incidents since its inception. All staff/employees are carefully vetted and screened. Even petty thefts are unheard of. Residents feel completely safe in the environment and with each other.
