David Mayne’s 90^th Zoom Birthday Party

I have written earlier about the 80^th birthday party of Professor David Mayne http://blog.sciencenet.cn/blog-1565-369690.html.  Well, time flies. He was 90 year old on 4/23/2020. Of course under the current world wide pandemic, another in person gathering and celebration is not possible. Thanks to his good friend, Professor Lucien Polak of UC Berkeley, a zoom celebration was organized and attended by his Imperial  College colleagues, his former students, and good friends from Europe, North America, and Australia. I was one of the invited. All in all, there were a lot of reminiscing and congratulations. Despite knowing David for over more than half a century (and saw him as recent as last fall http://blog.sciencenet.cn/blog-1565-1198541.html,  http://blog.sciencenet.cn/blog-1565-1197881.html), I learned facts about his life that I did not know before. It was also grand to meet via cyberspace several mutual friends I have not seen in years which brought back sweet memories.

Ten years ago, such meetings were not possible or imagined. Salute to the modern technology of “Zoom”. With luck and God willing, I'll see my own in four years time.
