For new readers and those who request to be “好友 good friends” please read my 公告栏 first
The latest issue of Technology Review (MIT’s flag ship publication) features Shelia Widnall who spent her entire career at MIT from 1960 to now, except for three years as the Secretary of the US Air Force. The article details her entire career, vision, and contributions.
Her career and times parallels my own in the Greater Cambridge area. I also know her husband Bill Widnall whose field in system and control coincides with mine and we briefly worked together at the Draper Laboratory of MIT (another famous product of the MIT Aero-Astronautics department).
Given the paucity of women in Engineering even as of today (only 20 percent of students in the US engineering colleges are women), it is worthwhile and inspiring to read this article. It should be also for Chinese women students.
