The PhD
Candidacy Exam is a milestone of PhD study.
The written and oral examinations are designed to allow for the
Examination Committee to determine whether a PhD student is well prepared to
conduct scientific research that will, within a reasonable period, lead to a
PhD dissertation that can be successfully defended, and eventually, make
significant scientific contributions to the academic and engineering
community.
Upon the completion of your
examination, I am writing to inform you that the examination committee has made
the following decision with respect to your Candidacy Examination:
Your assessment is:
Pass (written exam) and Fail (oral exam).
The following
are the main observations made by the committee during the oral examination,
which led to the decision:
You do not have the solid background in
fundamental hydraulics required to carry out the proposed research;
You did not provide convincing answers
with confidence to questions related to development and execution of the
proposed physical experiments;
You are inadequately equipped in the
areas of numerical analysis and
mathematical modeling to carry out the development of the Lagrangian numerical
model for CDEFGH systems in your proposal; and
There is deficiency in your
communication skills.
As this is your second attempt at the candidacy examination, we
regret to inform you that you will be withdrawn from the PhD program as a
result of this unsatisfactory outcome.
We would like
to wish you all the best with your future endeavors.
Sincerely yours,
Dr. Diaper O Chair, Examination Committee
