评析：

1.

pandemic：a disease that spreads over a whole country or the whole world  大流行病

epidemic：a large number of cases of a particular disease happening at the same time in a particular community  流行病；传染病

endemic (in/to ...)：regularly found in a particular place or among a particular group of people and difficult to get rid of  某地流行的；某地特有的

这三个词可以用作形容词和名词，endemic用作形容词更多些。

pandemic强调在全国或全球蔓延，epidemic强调在某地区多人同时感染。这三个词里，epidemic最常见，也最常用。

2.

very：very已用烂，避之唯恐不及。如果铁了心要用，就先用跟“娘希匹”对等的国骂damn代替看看是否顺耳（参阅《简洁的原理》（英文版），第200页）。删去very，或用frighteningly，如何？

世界卫生组织官员的原话不能改，改为间接引用就解决问题了。

Italy placed the whole country under an unprecedented lockdown on Tuesday to fight the spread of the novel coronavirus outbreak, while the World Health Organization warned that "the threat of a pandemic has become very real" as the virus has a foothold in so many countries.

评析：

1.

lockdown：the confining of prisoners to their cells, typically to regain control during a riot (多指暴乱期间为控制局势而对囚犯施行的）临时监禁。这个词主要在北美用。由这个意思引申出另一个意思：a state of isolation or restricted access instituted as a security measure 隔离；关闭（作为安全措施）

看到lockdown首先想到的是监狱的监禁。词有隐含意思，一定要弄清楚（参阅《简洁的原理》（英文版），第135页）。做外宣的朋友尤其要注意，不要盲目从外刊上拿词用：自以为用了个好词，其实却是站错队、表错态。

用quarantine：a period of time when an animal or a person that has or may have a disease is kept away from others in order to prevent the disease from spreading  检疫；检疫期。可以搭配的动词有：enforce ~；keep sb/sth in ~；put sb/sth in ~。

2. novel coronavirus

“新型冠状病毒肺炎”及其英文名novel coronavirus pneumonia是我国卫健委命名的术语。世界卫生组织给出的命名是COVID19。最早与我国停航的意大利其病例与我国没有关系；意大利一号病例跟武汉市华南海鲜市场的病例同为一代，但该号病例跟我国没有任何接触史。意大利的疫情跟我国无关。意大利的疫情应该用COVID19。

3. spread

spread前面用动词fight不太好。可以选用的动词有两类：（1）halt、prevent、stop、tackle；（2）combat、contain、control、curb、limit、reduce。

4. outbreak

能说to fight the spread of the COVID 19 outbreak吗？不行。to prevent the outbreak of COVID19？可以。

5. while

while什么意思？我不知道。因为while可以表示and at the same time、whereas、although等多个意思。参阅《简洁的原理》（英文版），第201页。
