做我们能做的

　　三天来，我的心里一直充溢着深深的焦虑和悲伤。每天我都不断地追踪着地震最新消息，往往过了午夜。每个人对这场难以置信的灾难的感受都是一样的，当我将地震消息告诉德国同事时，她的眼里立刻涌起了泪花。

　　我们能做些什么？距离太远，无法直接救助。我们无法用自己的双手营救埋在废墟下的成千上万的人，他们正在绝望地呼喊，渴求帮助。但是，我们做我们能够做到的。我们几个华人决定向地震抗灾基金会捐赠。我写了一个英文博客来记述这场可怕的灾难，并要求几个朋友尽可能地传播。目前，在美国和欧洲的朋友已经开始在各处张贴地震布告，捐赠也已经开始。

　　我非常感激《自然》杂志的网络编辑。他们将我的博客放在了《自然》网站首页以传播这个消息。我感谢可真老师，他的综合报道提供了很多感人的照片，同样感谢杨玲，他向我提供了接受海外捐赠的组织名单。我已经把它放进了我的博客。

　　在这个吞噬了成千上万个无辜生命的巨大天灾面前，我们每个人显得如此渺小。但是，只要我们团结起来，做我们能做的，我们就会足够强大，战胜这场灾难！（科学网　梅进译）

What obsessed me in these three days are deep anxiety and true sadness. Each day after I recovered from the voraciously reading the latest news about the earthquake, it always well passed the mid-night. All people feel the same about this unbelievable tragedy. When I told what I heard about the earthquake to one of my German colleague, I can not help noticing the tears emerged in her eyes.

What can we do? We are too far away to help directly. We are unable to use our hands to save thousand of people buried in the ruins who are desperately yearning for the help. But we can do what we can. We several Chinese decided to donate to the earthquake relief foundation. I wrote an English blog to describe this terrible disaster and asked my friends to pass it everywhere they can reach.Now friends in US and Europe begin to put earthquake posters everywhere and donate themselves now.

I am grateful to the web editors of Journal Nature. They put my blog entry into their cover page to spread the news. I thank Kezhen, whose comprehensive report offered many moving photos. Before this huge monster which devoured tens of thousands of innocent lives, each of us is very very small. However, if each of us unite and do what we can do, we can be big enough to overcome this disaster.
