1. Laishun Zeng was a Chinese residing in Malasia, he became orphane at early age and later he worked as a servant at American consulate. He met missionary there then.
Laishun Zeng started to attend Bloomfield Academy in year 1846 at age 17. A missionary from Bloomfield arranged school and hosting family for him. In 1848 he was admitted to Hammilton College. However his sponsor family could not continue to pay his fees so he went back to China to take a job. He worked for General Zuo(sure you know about General Zuo' chicken) and Hongxhang Li.
2. On September 20,1870, 68 Chinese arrived at Belleville.

7. the Chinese Business directory that I emailed you is far from complete for couple of reasons:
- Some postal workers in San Francisco compiled information but the earthquake destroyed it all. Then they had to star again and finally published it in Jan 1913.
- They may require a fee and not everyone was willing to pay.
- Communications was difficult at that time
Anyway, now we know there were Chinese in jersey City, Camden too, besides Newark.
