天然产物化学是化学、生物和医药科学的重要交叉领域:分离和解析天然产物为寻找生物活性分子开辟了广阔的空间;很多药物来源于天然产物骨架;天然产物的结构与生物活性关系的研究,重要天然产物骨架的发现,促进了药物相关分子的设计和研发;天然产物的化学合成促进了有机合成新策略、新方法的发展,为设计合成具有更高生物活性的分子结构多样性的“类天然产物”开辟了新途径;天然产物生物合成机制的研究,揭示了自然界如何高效率、高选择性地产生这些独特的化学结构,从而激发化学合成学习和思考如何基于遗传原理和细胞工厂高度合理的有序性,设计更加精巧高效的天然产物的化学合成。
为了梳理该学科面临的关键科学问题和挑战,聚焦该领域重要、前瞻性或深层次的科学问题,进一步凝练我国今后在该领域的研究重点,提出未来学科需要布局的重要方向,同时促进青年人才的成长,国家自然科学基金委员会于2015年3月15-17日在北京会议中心举办了“天然产物化学”发展战略研讨会。结合会议成果,国家自然科学基金委郑企雨研究员和中国科学院上海有机所李昂研究员作为特约编辑,为Science China Chemistry 组织了“Natural Product Chemistry”(天然产物化学)专刊,于2016年第9期正式出版。
专刊由15篇文章组成,内容涵盖5个方面:新结构、新活性天然产物的发现(见岳建民教授、普建新教授、许刚教授和刘波教授的文章); 天然产物合成中的方法学:不对称催化(张洪彬教授)、惰性键活化(贾彦兴教授)、自由基与光化学(高栓虎教授); 天然产物的化学生物学:天然产物分子探针(雷晓光教授)、糖肽化学生物学(李学臣教授); 天然产物的合成策略及分类合成(见姚祝军教授、梁广鑫教授、樊春安教授、洪然教授文章); 天然产物的生物合成(见刘文教授和林君教授文章).
