During the past ten days, another snow storm after the first major blizzard http://blog.sciencenet.cn/home.php?mod=space&uid=1565&do=blog&id=863734 just came and went. A historical record of snow amounting to total of 47.5 inches was deposited in the greater Boston area during the past ten days. Boston reported a 10 million dollar clean up fee just for first storm. The surrounding town has their own snow removal budgets which I am sure more than match that of Boston. The snow clearing cost for my owndriveway totaled $200.00 (now $350.00) not counting my continuing efforts shoveling steps and short walk ways. For people living in the northern part of the US, this is something you get used to and prepared for. Being retired one enjoys the advantage of not having to report to work or appointments.
Also during this period, our own American football team, the Patriots, won the Superbowl and world championship in most dramatic fashion with the outcome only determined in the last 20 second of the game. For aficionados of American football, there is an interesting write up of all the strategies/tactics/thinking that went into the last 2 minutes of the game in the Feb 3 issue of the Boston Globe sports section https://www.google.com/search?q=boston+globe+sports&rlz=1C1EODB_enUS618US618&oq=Boston+Globe&aqs=chrome.2.69i57j0l5.6466j0j8&sourceid=chrome&es_sm=93&ie=UTF-8
Readers of the articles will realize that the game is a lot more than just muscle strength and running speed. Everyone including me was on the edge of our seat and experienced the emotional ups and downs of the game. All told the Superbowl had a 100 million+ viewers and 4.5 million dollars cost for each 30 second TV ad.
Locally, we also had the annual Chinese Americans of Lexington sponsored election forum. CAs in Lexington have become a recognized political force that can sway election outcomes in the town. As a esult candidates will come to our forum seeking our votes. In return we contribute to the welfare of the town and give back to the community http://blog.sciencenet.cn/home.php?mod=space&uid=1565&do=blog&id=863062 .
Who said life is boring during retirement?
