For new readers and those who request to be “好友 good friends” please read my 公告first.
This is the nineth unedited article by my grandson Daniel
On the Beginning Stage of Life

Having read my grandfather’s insights on the end stage of life http://www.sciencenet.cn/m/user_content.aspx?id=338821, I thought that I would try and give my perspective on the beginning stage of life, such as it is. Thus this article will be a bit more free flowing, and I hope, humorous. It is intended to be less serious then my grandfather’s article, but no less honest.

I will be 21 on the last day of this month. In America, 18 is the age when you legally become an adult, however 21 is the age where you can legally purchase and consume alcohol. Therefore, one’s 21st birthday in America is usually an affair that goes on for many hours involving your friends, perhaps family, and enough alcohol to drown the entire population of New York City.

Here are some of the downsides of being young

1.)    It is hard for older people to take younger people seriously. This is because young people do a lot of stupid things when they are young. The older people did stupid things when they were young too, but they have long since forgotten about them.

2.)    You may not have a complete idea of what you want to do in life. This is confusing and will bother you for a long time. Or you may know what you want to do but exactly how to do it escapes you.

3.)    You are always broke. Always. Young people never have money. It’s a law of physics.

4.)    You are probably going to have to save the world since the other generations messed it up so badly. Saving the world is going to be a lot of work.

Here are some of the advantages of being young

1.)    You have your whole life ahead of you. Many fun things await. Also many stupid things. The two are not always mutually exclusive.

2.)    You have many ideas and opinions that you will continue to work on as you develop as a person.

3.)    Older people always ask you for computer help.

4.)    You are probably going to have to save the world since the other generations messed it up so badly. Saving the world is going to be really cool.

As always, I would welcome any thoughts or comments from the readers, no matter what age they are. If you are unsure of your English, simply write it in Chinese and my grandfather will translate. Also, if you have any suggestions for topics you would like to see me write about, I would love to hear them.
