Because of the pandemic, we have not travelled by air for some 4+ years. This past week took our first trip to the west coast to spent the holidays with our family ( all 12 of them minus one daughter, son-in-law, and one grandson. It is amazing how much things have changed in just four years. On the airplane, I had a difficult time trying to operate the new entertainment screen. Finally I just gave up and went to sleep for the six plus hour trip from the us east coast to the west coast. At the AirBnB we stayed in Palo Alto near SANFRANCISCO I had to ask my grandchild to help me operate the TV to watch the program I regularly watch at home. In four years, the world has changed so much that it is difficult for an old person like me to keep up. Furthermore in new surroundings , I feel the need to walk with a cane for secure balance or be most careful and walk slowly without one. I used to feel with GPS and a rental car, I can go any where and find anybody. But, this time I am glad Io have my children and grandchildren acting as chauffeur driving us around. We visited several special old friends this time. First was my professor mentor from 65 years ago. At 97 he is still with it, amazing. Second, we visited with the first friend I made in the US in 1950 one month after my arrival in the US, William Lee a nd his wife, Lucille. Third, is an old friend I have known since the 1940s when I was escaping the Japanese during WWII. He was also the friend who met me when I first arrive in the US 9/2/1950. Finally, Sophia’s girl friend classmate in high school in Taiwan from many decades ago. At our age of 89 and 87.5 we have lived long past our product expiration date. To be able to re new friendship with all these people are precious indeed!. I told my mentor professor that I’ll come for his 100th birthday in three years time.
We returned home on 12/27 and still tested negative for COVID for both of us and are thankful for our safe trip. During the daylight flight back to the E ast Coast we saw snow covered land from horizon to horizon hours on end during the flight. It was the monster 40 states wide snow storm we missed being on the west coast during the Xmas weekends. It is also a trip when our daughter and son took care of EVERYTHING. We just sit back and enjoyed having every thing done for us. We are a lucky couple indeed!
