Immigration vs Emigration

I just heard on the radio a historic statistic for the past year of 2025 - more immigrants left the US than immigrant who came to the US. This statistic provided an explanation that Mexico actually provides funding for adult education in California.  Many elderly immigrants actually choose to return to their home country after a life time working in the US because they feel more comfortable and secure there. This is understandible particularly if one id not highly educated. I know of many Chinese Americans live most of their live in the US in local Chinatowns and never learn the English language well. They can live a more comfortable retired lives in China since the US dollar they earned are worth more (can buy more stuff) back in China.

In the senior retirement community where my wife and I live currently, the population of Chinese ethnicity is about 2.5% while that of the town of Lexington where the institution, Brookhaven, is located approaches 17%. For years Brookhaven try to recruit more Asian residents for diversity reasons but was not successful. This is not because finance but because of suitability. We know many Chinese friends who do not find liviong at Brookhaven suitable for their life style. Even living outside of Chinatown, they just have not sufficiently integrated into the American society despite having graduate degrees.

There is nothing right or wrong for choosing to remain in the US or to return to your motherland. In your working life you can put up with any disconfort in order to earn a living. But in retirement, you are seeking for comfort and convenience. We have known Chinese-American friends who have retired to live in China and leaving their native born children in Amnerica. In many ways and understandibly, they feel more respected back in China than in the US during retirement. It is the diference of Chinese American with a big "C" vs with an big "A".
