The Two Systems of Global Tectonic Activity

Chen Lijun

The global heat engine belt m-typed and a w-type belt of mid-ocean ridges in Fig. 1 formed with a tendency of upside-down form two systems of global tectonic activities, heat system and cold system.

Fig.1  The draft of global tectonic activity mechanism.

Heat System: heat engine belt is made up of 24 deep seismic mantle plumes which are hundreds of kilometers deep down in the mantle (Fig. 2). Activity energy is mainly from the deep mantle and is driven from the bottom to the up layer by layer, resulting high frequency of seismic and volcanic disasters in near-surface, and its activity may be related to the thrown-out of the hot material in the mantle as the Earth's rotation angular velocity changed.

Fig.2  The distribution of seismic mantle plume on the Earth.

Cold System: mid-ocean ridge belt is with the main active layer within the depth of  ten kilometers, the inherited motion in the mid-ocean ridge segments caused by the Earth's rotation rate changes result the slow continental drift activities (Fig. 3), their activities may be associated with surface material that is away from or opposed to the equator by the angular velocity changes.

The phase differences of the cold and hot systems create a difference in the current global landscape, including the ocean and land distribution pattern.

In the Seismo-geothermics, the system is divided in two parts. Research of the formation mechanism of earthquakes and volcanoes focuses on the heat system, and research of global tectonics and the mechanism of earthquakes and volcanic activities in crust focuses on the cold system.

The mix of two systems is misleading.

Seismic data used in this article are from website http://www.ncedc.org/ of ANSS earthquake catalog. Volcanic data are from website http://www.volcano.si.edu/ of volcanic GVP report monthly.GPS data are from website http://sideshow.jpl.nasa.gov/. I'd like to thank.
