主讲人介绍
David Chan, Ph.D.,
Professor of Biology (in Division of Biology and Biological Engineering)
Dean of Graduate Studies
California Institute of Technology
David Chan is the Harold and Violet Alvarez Professor of Biology at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). Since 2000, he has been running a research group in the Division of Biology and Biological Engineering at Caltech. The laboratory's main interest is to understand the role of mitochondrial dynamics in cellular function, human physiology, and disease. The approaches used include cell biology, biochemistry, structural biology, and mouse genetics. As Dean of Graduate Studies, he oversees Caltech's MS and PhD graduate programs, which spans 6 academic Divisions and 31 graduate options.
He did his undergraduate studies at Harvard College and graduated with a BA degree in Biochemical Sciences. His undergraduate research included studies of cell motility. He joined the MD-PhD program at Harvard Medical School, completing PhD studies on limb development with Philip Leder and medical studies in the Harvard-MIT program in Health Sciences and Technology. He then studied the mechanism of viral membrane fusion with Peter Kim as a postdoctoral fellow at the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In 2000, he joined the faculty of Caltech, where he continues to perform research on mitochondrial dynamics and to teach cell biology.
Song Gao, Ph.D, Professor,
Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center, Guangzhou, China
Dr. Song Gao received his BS from Wuhan University, MS from the University of St Andrews, UK, and PhD from Max-Delbrück-Center for Molecular Medicine/Free University Berlin, Germany. His laboratory is interested in studying mechanisms of membrane remodeling by the dynamin superfamily members, particularly mitofusin-mediated mitochondrial outer membrane fusion. He has published over 50 papers with an H-index of 22.
