I have in the past emphasized repeatedly the importance of speaking well   http://blog.sciencenet.cn/blog-1565-5442.html, http://blog.sciencenet.cn/blog-1565-783514.html. Recently I was reminded of this fact once again.  

More than 28 years ago when my older daughter got married to my late son-in-law, Leonard, one of  the classmate of Leonard attended the wedding. I have never met this person  before the wedding nor afterwards. Recently my daughter by chance met this person again  after all these years.  Yet the first thing this  person mentioned to my daughter is that how impressed  he was with the wedding banquet speech I gave  as Father of the bride.  Thus, at the risk of repeating myself too often, here are the reasons why everyone  should try to learn to speak well.

1.      Speaking well is a skill that can beLEARNED regardless who you are.

2.      The World is full of people as smart as or smarter than you are. But most of them speak only in a self-centered way and don’t pay attention to speak well. Thus, if you do, you will stand out

3.      For most of the speaking occasion,  you will be giving a prepared talk with plenty of time  for preparation.  Thus, there are no excuse to not prepare and speak well

4.      Everyone is engaged every day in trying to sell ones ideas, products, and services.  Speaking well can  only help you to realize your goals.

5.      People may not remember what you said in your speech, but they will still remember  years later that you gave a good speech.
