小孩子学学这样的英语歪诗挺好

爱德华.李尔（Edward Lear，1812－1888）是著名的英国科学绘图艺术家，也是喜欢写歪诗的人。他19岁时，就因为将鹦鹉鸟画得栩栩如生而被称为绘图艺术家了。后来，英国德比伯爵请他到府上，为自己搜集的大量动植物标本绘图。这一阶段，李尔比较孤独，因为伯爵的来往宾客都是贵族，与他不是一个阶层的。于是，他有时候为伯爵的孙辈孩子们画些画，写些儿歌，以打发时光。后来，他将那些儿歌类的小诗发表了，但不敢用真名，而长期采用笔名。他担心，若别人知道了那些无厘头歪诗是他写的，不免毁了自己作为科学绘图家的名声。
2011年，瑞典Kristianstad大学师资教育学院的硕士生玛格丽特.华莱士.尼尔森完成了自己的硕士论文。她这篇论文的基本想法是，既然天下的孩子都喜欢押韵、重复的声音，那么，李尔的无厘头英语诗歌说不定对瑞典孩子学习英语有帮助呢。她从李尔的《胡言乱语字母歌》（附在下面）中整理出词汇，让两组小学四年级的同学来学习。第一组孩子通过学习这首诗，知道了英语单词的押韵是怎么回事，他们就自发地去寻找相互押韵的单词。另一组孩子只用常规方法去学习记忆单词。结果发现，接触了《胡言乱语字母歌》的这组孩子对英语单词的掌握要更好。
家长们，如果你们的孩子正在学习英语，也不妨让他们读读、背背这首（以及李尔写的其他）好玩的诗歌，我相信对于其提高英语水平一定有帮助。

With a border upon it,

Pretty green veil!
W was a watch,
Where, in letters of gold,
The hour of the day
You might always behold.
Beautiful watch!
Y was a yew,
Which flourished and grew
By a quiet abode
Near the side of a road.
Dark little yew!
Z was a zebra,
All striped white and black;
And if he were tame,
You might ride on his back.
