Group,
I am not a feminist. These I have been watching a Chinese movie series “Protection battle for marriage” – a story telling how women overpowering men in business and academy. Here is an interesting fact I need to share with the group.
We have 7 men and 3 women (now only two after Wei left) in our lab on the 5th floor. Including researchers from Sree’s lab we still have a 7:4 gender ratio. However, only Subat published two papers this year (Aging Cell/FRBM) in excellent journals (impact >5) on the man-side. On the other hand, our lady researchers have produced (Asli has two JMCC papers; Wei has JCMM, FRBM; and Megan has Hypertension and Autophagy). If considering PLoS One to be another good journal (the first year impact factor is a bit surprising), Rui has two PLoS One papers (Machender has one). Rui and Megan also coauthored in Eur Heart J (impact 9.8). If counting by number, our 7 men have 7 first-authored publications whereas the 4 women have 12 first authored publications.
For submitted work, men side has only 1 (Nate’s apocynin) at this time whereas women side has 7 papers (Wei has 2; Megan has 3; Yian has 2) in consideration in top tier journals.
Conclusion: Men, we are falling behind and need to catch up big time.
