Peach Blossom at Valentine’s Slope

Standing to the southeast of the Big Auditorium, Tsinghua School Building is of classical German style. It was the main building of the school in the initial stage before 1949 and the headquarters of the school administration.

Next to the back door of the Gongziting Hall, Shuimu Tsinghua is the most charming resort in the whole campus, with trees circling around the clear waters, and 2 graceful ancient pavilions standing in the woods.

Originally an imperial garden of the Qing Dynasty, Jinchunyuan garden was reduced to “deserted island” in 1860 when British and French forces invaded Beijing. It was not rebuilt until 1979. This is the venue of Moonlight over the Lotus Pond, a well-known prose by Professor Zhu Ziqing.

The Library consists of the old building and the new one. The old building was completed in March 1919. And the new building, also called the Shaw Buildings, was constructed in 1991. With distinctive feature of their own, both buildings are architectural masterpieces in China.

The Big Auditorium stands in the middle of the west area of Tsinghua. It is in a mixture of Roman and Greek style. It is generally considered a symbol of firmness, simplicity and fortitude. The Big Auditorium was built in 1917, with a floor space of 1840 square meters and 1,200 seats.

The Second Gate, built in 1909, was Tsinghua’s original school gate. In 1933, with the expansion of residential areas, the campus was enlarged and a new school gate (today’s west gate) was built. Since then the original gate is conventionally called “the Second Gate”.

With a floor space of 9700 square meters, the natatorium provides the audience with 1208 seats. All its facilities are designed to meet international competition venues requirements.
