计算技术经由传教士期刊在晚清中国的传播*

摘要：目的  旨在廓清晚清计算技术经由传教士期刊在中国的传播源流，为汉字文化圈数学演化史研究提供新的文献支撑。方法  用排除法调查1833—1900年间出版的5种期刊，确认《六合丛谈》和《格致汇编》的代表性和唯一性，然后基于中西数学交融的背景进行原始期刊文献分析考证。结果  1857年1卷2期《六合丛谈》所发表的《新造算器》一文最早在期刊上将巴贝奇、许茨等人研制的差分机传入中国，并再传入日本。其使用线性差分法计算整数的乘方运算，并完全使用机械驱动，最终将结果印于纸上。1876年1卷1期《格致汇编》发表的《算器图说》一文最早在期刊上将西方机械计算机传入中国，并报道最早购买和使用者为天算家贾步纬和上海格致书院。结论  《六合丛谈》和《格致汇编》最早传入欧洲计算技术，表明期刊逐渐取代书籍成为传播最新科技成果的主媒介；同时，欧洲最新计算器为晚清中国科学家和科学机构所用，表明中国的科学由纯粹的手工推算步入了机械计算的时代，同时计算机在天文观测计算等科学领域的首先使用也再次表明直到晚清，数学和天文历算等学科仍然是引领中西科学交融的前沿。

The calculating technology was communicated via missionary journals in late Qing dynasty

Abstract:  Aim  To find out the origin of calculating technology communicating via journals in late Qing Dynasty, provide literature support for the mathematics and evolution research in Chinese culture area. Methods  Exclusive method was used to confirm the representative and uniqueness of Shanghai Serial and The Chinese Scientific Magazine through the investigation of 5 journals between 1833 and 1900. Based on the background of interflow between Chinese and western mathematics, the original document analysis research was used. Results  The new computer in Shanghai Serial in 1857 first communicated the difference engine which was invented by Babbage and Scheutz in China, then in Japan. The difference engine calculated integral involution with linear method of finite difference, it was mechanical drive and printed the results on paper.
