川剧一直都是我国戏曲艺术中的一朵奇葩，川剧中的变脸艺术是一种表达内心激烈冲突，或特殊心态的独特技巧，可谓世上一绝。一九五九年，川剧著名演员赵书琴在东德演《白蛇传》，并在柏林拍成电影，镜头下，脸谱一变再变，根本无法看出个中奥秘（如下图）。

很象这种艺术，一些癌细胞（癌干细胞，CSCs）也具备这种超凡能力，能够自我更新和再生所有的细胞类型以建造肿瘤组织。最近，浙江大学生命科学研究所的冯新华教授在Nature Reviews Molecular Cell Biology 上发表了一篇Journal Club短文（:10.1038/nrm2923:10.1038/nrm2923），认为“The connection between EMT and stem cell-like properties — which has given us a new 'behind the scenes' look at how cancer cells perfect the art of face-changing — will enable us to better understand the formation of metastatic cancer, and the molecular targeting of CSCs that derive from EMT may be a new way to treat this devastating disease.”
