If you happen to be near the University of Hawaii at Manoa (the main campus), please try a small restaurant named “Spices,” which serves Southeast Asian cuisine.

We went there last night, our first visit, and ordered two dishes, Massaman curry with beef (hot) and Laotian curry with seafood (medium).  They both tasted great.  The service was very good. The restaurant also offers home-made ice creams, including unique flavors such as yellow curry.

"MASSAMAN CURRY

Massaman curry paste and coconut milk w/ bay leaves, potato, and onion, topped w/ fried shallots

 LAOTIAN CURRY [Pony’s way]

Based on a Madras curry, our homemade curry paste is sautéed w/ coconut milk, kaffir leaves, snake bean, Laotian “pea” eggplant (Makeng) and Laotian “baby” eggplant (Makhua).  Fresh dill garnish gives this curry a distinctive country flavor"

ps. The parking can be tough...
pps. Lunch special is pretty good.  Reasonable price and portion.
