Good morning, ladies and gentlemen, it is my honor to be here to introduce my major. My major is research on new energy, including solar energy, wind energy, bio-energy, human energy and so on.

As we all know, energy is the foundation of human’s survival. Economy in China has risen so fast in these few years owes mainly to the manufacture which consumes much energy. With the development of the society and economy, more and more energy is needed. However, the amount of fossil energy is limited, and it does harm to the environment when we use the fossil fuel. Therefore it is very important to develop the new energy. In the light of Obama’s UN speech we have listened to, we can know the US government has invested 80 million dollars in clean energy. And the Chinese government also put great importance on energy-saving and emission reduction.

Today I want to introduce one kind of new energy that we have ignored for long time. It is common in the world. It is human energy, often called human power.

I want to ask some questions. Have you seen in the old movie that people swing the telephone before they make a call? Perhaps many people know they are generating the power to drive the telephone. Nowadays we can also use human power to generate the electricity. Maybe someone thinks it is a waste of energy, because the chemical energy in food is converted into energy human can use in our body, and we use the energy to work to generate the electricity, its efficiency is very low. Of course we can’t build a plant, just hire the man to work to generate the electricity using the human power. Human power can be used in specific areas.

First we can collect the human power to generate the electricity in the places many people gather or walk by. For example we can put some power generating device in the entrance or the exit of subway station. When people walk on it, it will convert the work because of pressure to electricity. The electricity can be used to light the lamp, and drive the air-conditioner. We can think about many places with a lot of people, the entrance of the market, the cinema, the dancing place.

Second we can use human power when we do the exercises. Nowadays many people work only before the computer using their brain . They need to do some exercises everyday, like walking, running, lifting and so on. We do some work consuming the energy, but it is converted just to heat, not the energy we can used. We can use a machine like a bicycle to rotate the axis to generate the electricity. We even can attach some device to our body or in our pocket, just using the energy when we walk.

Human power is clean. We can use it to do something such as lighting the lamp when the electricity is off, to drive the computer and so on. And it is very useful in some emergence, like in the outdoors the mobile phone run out of the electricity or the electricity is cut off because of the earthquake or hurricane and so on.

 The focus now is to invent the machine with low-cost and high-efficiency and potable. It is very interesting, I like my major. I think I can do some contribution to the new energy of our country with the help of my supervisor and my partners.
