美国化学会(American Chemical Society, ACS)成立于1876 年, 其总部设在华盛顿,下属的出版机构总部设在哥伦比亚, 主要负责编辑加工、出版发行等工作。为致力于科技合作的全球化, ACS采取通过重要出版物的战略来加强自己作为全世界最优秀的化学信息提供者的地位;并提出这种地位的巩固主要通过采用技术先进的电子传输和出版活动来实现, 并由此可以提供一种完善的化学文献检索的数字环境。
ACS的期刊编辑出版体系十分完善,其倡导的编辑出版道德规范和写作与编辑指南所涉及的内容十分全面、细致,在科学界和出版界具广泛影响。
ACS独立或联合出版的各类刊物有近60种,不同期刊的定位、分工等十分明确,其中《美国化学会杂志》(The Journal of the American Chemical Society, JACS)和《化学评论》(Chemical Reviews)较具代表性。JACS创办于1879年, 是ACS的旗舰期刊(flagship journal of the American Chemical Society); Chem Rev问世于1924年,ACS自豪地宣告:Chemical Reviews has the highest ISI® Impact Factor in Chemistry at 23.529 and is also highly cited journal in the category of Multidisciplinary Chemistry with 69,560 total citations, a 10.1% increase, as reported by the 2008 Journal Citation Reports® by Thomson Reuters.
